FIRST TIME EVER TO COME TO NEW ZEALAND

WE PRESENT TO YOU THE ORIGINAL LEGEND FROM JAMAICA

                                          ECHO MINOTT

                                                     AND

                                   RIDDIM FORCE BAND

( DENMARK NUMBER ONE TOP SUPPORTING BAND )

LIVE AND DIRECT SAT 6TH NOV CONCERT AREA

Echo Minott was born Noel Phillips and grew up in the Maverley area of Kingston, Jamaica. He started singing from an early age, appearing in local talent contests and school concerts.
His first break came in 1980 when he recorded the album "Youthman Vibration" for legendary producer Prince Jammy at the age of 17 years. This album wasn't released in Jamaica and appeared on the Starlight label based in London, U.K.

In 1983 he recorded the tune "Ten Miles" for his cousin, producer Errol Marshall, and this was his first tune to be released under the name Echo Minott. He then recorded his first UK hit "Man in Love" (Oak Sound) for Dillinger and an album "Echo Minott meets Sly and Robbie" (Jam-Can) for famous producer George Phang. Four of these songs were later re-packaged on an album called "Echo Minott meets Frankie Paul" (Powerhouse) and released in 1987.

Now in-demand as an increasingly popular dancehall singer, Echo began recording for many other producers and scored his first Jamaican No. 1 single with the song "Love Problems" produced by Joe Gibbs. He followed this with another hit, "Farmer Man" for the late Henry "Junjo" Lawes' Volcano Records label.

It was in 1985 that Echo Minott finally became an international reggae star with the monster hit "Lazy Body", released on the Black Scorpio label. It was a number one all over the reggae world and led to a whole album of versions to the rhythm. This was swiftly followed by the album "Rock and Calypso" for producer Harry J, which contained the hit singles "Lazy Body", "Rock and Calypso" and the mighty "Uncle Sam Country", which told of his exploits from his visit to America.

LIVE AND DIRECT SATURDAY 6TH NOVEMBER -CONCERT AREA

House of Shem hail from Aotearoa, New Zealand and like many legendary reggae groups this band is built around the classic harmony trio format. At the helm is Carl Perkins, a man with over thirty years experience writing and playing reggae music. As a former member of Herbs, Mana and the Twelve Tribes of Israel Band amongst others, Carl’s musical credentials are impeccable.

Joining him up front are two of his sons, Te Omeka and Isaiah who not only provide harmonies but both of whom also write, take turns at singing lead and play keyboards as well. It is this blood link and family bond that renders the sound of their combined voices as something really extraordinary. Each of the three has their own distinct song writing style and voice, effectively giving the band three different lead singers. The harmonies are sublime and the precision of their ensemble performance is phenomenal.

KATCHAFIRE LIVE AND DIRECT SUNDAY 7TH NOV - CONCERT AREA

Katchafire are an all Maori reggae band from Hamilton, who have achieved phenomenal success over the last few years. Their debut album, the prophetically named Revival release by Mai Music, has sold in excess of 45,000 copies with Giddy Up being the biggest selling single of 2003. 2004’s follow up, Slow Burning, was similarly well received, selling 20,000 copies in the first week of release.

The acclaim has not just been in New Zealand though: two tours to Hawaii in 2006 have resulted in sales of 14,000 copies of Revival, and Slow Burning was released there in March 2007. A promotional campaign in the UK last year also garnered amazing feedback from Don Letts (Acclaimed documentary maker and Clash tour DJ) and David Katz (Music journalist) amongst others, and radio plays from Steve Barker (BBC), Charlie Gillet (BBC) and, most importantly, David Rodigan (Kiss FM and others), who highly rates their orthodox approach.

Katchafire are one of the hardest working bands in New Zealand. As well as opening shows for the likes of Damien Marley, Michael Franti and Spearhead, they have played gigs all across the country (three in one day on Waitangi Day 2004, in Hamilton, Manukau and Nelson!), undertaken four tours of Australia, and in November 2004, they headlined a stadium-filling show in Fiji. In March 2005 all their dreams came true when they supported the original Wailers in Auckland. 2006 was their busiest year yet: two tours of Hawaii plus their debut tours of England, Ireland and the west coast of America. They are now working on their third album, due out September, to be released by EMI Music who the band recently signed a licensing deal with.
